Día de la Mamá! Mother’s Day in Argentina! Nai and I set up a little maté and breakfast for Fabiana and gave her our gifts. We spent the morning in our pajamas, chatting and enjoying the slow start. One of Fabiana’s old friends was also in Buenos Aires for the weekend, so she came over to join us for mate.

Later, we strolled to the park to check out some pop-up stalls selling thrifted clothes and other trinkets. Of course, we ended up on our favorite block in San Telmo again. It just has the best restaurants and the coziest vibe, with all our go-to spots in one place. We grabbed a table at Hierbabuena, a beautiful organic restaurant with a diverse menu – everything delicious. We sat outside on the patio, soaking up the late spring sun with a table full of wine and bright fruit juices, waiting for our food. The place was packed with families, new moms, and plenty of love—everyone out to celebrate their moms. It definitely made me miss mine back home. :,)

At lunch, Fabiana’s friend asked me what I love so much about Argentina, and the answer was easy for me—my host family is hands-down the best part of being here. It’s so special to spend Mother’s Day with my second mom, and yeah, maybe I got a little sappy at lunch, but how could I not? I feel incredibly lucky to have been welcomed into their home and culture and still be included like I’m one of their own. Happy Mother’s Day to my second mom! <3
