January 23rd
Nai’s dad, Juan Carlos, is in town for a few days and staying with us, so naturally, we had plenty of plans and places to go! This evening, a couple of Nai’s cousins—who are a few years older than us—came over to the apartment to catch up with the family. It had been a few years since they had all seen each other, and I had never met them before, so it was nice to hear about their lives and get to know them.
We went out for merienda, sitting outside sipping our coffees before wandering around Parque Lezama. The park was especially busy tonight, and we couldn’t help but smile at the large group gathered in the corner, deep in competitive chess matches. There was plenty of friendly yelling, and the energy was contagious. We laughed when we spotted a man playing with a parrot perched on his shoulder, casually hanging out as he focused on his next move. Post-park adventure, the rest of the evening was spent cozily chatting in the apartment. A laid-back end to a lively day.
