December 2024

December 31st

Noche Vieja (Old Night) is the name for New Year’s Eve here, and much like Christmas, it came with plenty of food and festivities. Nai has been sick the past few days, so we’ve been taking it pretty easy, and just planned to spend a nice evening at the house with the brothers, host parents, and Nai’s aunt who is visiting from Córdoba. We ordered some nice desserts from a bakery in town, threw together some sides, and grilled some asado (well Juan Carlos did).

At 10 p.m., we were all dressed in white—a tradition here symbolizing fresh starts, peace, and prosperity—and sat down in the quincho to eat, drink, and kick off the new year. I think everyone was worn out from the constant holiday events lately, so it wasn’t the most energetic or cheerful evening, but it was still a nice dinner spent with the family.

At midnight, we popped champagne and made the rounds, wishing each other a happy, successful, and beautiful 2025! And not long after, we all called it a night. Sure, there were plenty of after-parties going on throughout the neighborhood, but we were more than happy to skip the chaos, crash early, and wake up feeling human on January 1st. Cheers to that, and Happy 2025!
